Who's Who
in the Raiders organization

Note:  You'll find a complete directory of the Oakland Raiders organization on the Vertical Game site.

What follows are some of the nicknames commonly used by Raiders fans, as well as descriptions of several of the more colorful figures peripherally associated with the Raiders.

Al Davis—"Big Al"
President of the General Partner, General Manager, principal owner
To many, Al Davis is the personification of the Raiders; he certainly has had more effect on the Raiders organization than any other single person. He has been with the Raiders almost from the beginning, taking over in 1963 as head coach and general manager. The Raiders went 2-12 and 1-13 in the previous two seasons, but went 10-4 that year. Davis left the Raiders briefly in 1966 to serve as AFL Commissioner long enough to help engineer the merger with the NFL; he was back with the Raiders before the first preseason game as general manager.

Al Davis has been the subject of various books; see the Lore section.

Al LoCasale—"Little Al"
Executive Assistant to Al Davis
Little Al has been with the Raiders for many, many years and is often described as Big Al's right-hand man. He's suffered several heart attacks but always returns to the job he clearly loves.

George Jones—"Run-Run"
Water Guy
George Jones, a one-time Roller Derby star with the Bay Area Bombers, is the white-haired water guy who's always visible during Raider huddles and on the sideline during the games.

Frank Montecalvo—"The Shifty Guy"
Cable holder
Frank is a retired furniture salesman from the Oakland area, whose job during the tenure of former coach Art Shell was apparently to manipulate the cords connected to Art so that Art didn't trip. What cords, if any, he now handles is uncertain. Never really an important player in the Raiders organization, but past intense interest as to his identity from the list warrants his inclusion in this FAQ.

Lazy Drunk Guy—"LDG"
Nuisance
This was the name given to a sponge who took to frequenting the Tailgate Extravaganzas during the 1995 season. He was always on the lookout for free beer. Fortunately, he seems to have moved on to other parts.
