ORIB is short for the Oakland
Raiders Internet Boosters club. It began in 1995 as the dream of several dozen members of the Raiders Fans Mail List and opened its doors for business (new members) on July 4,
1996. The club currently has over 100 members and is recognized by the Oakland Raiders organization as an
official booster club.
A requirement for achieving official recognition by the Raiders is the designation of a
charitable cause for the club. ORIB is organized as a non-profit, voluntary association, and all funds not
used for club operating expenses are earmarked for worthy charities.
ORIB and the RFML are independent of each other. That said, there is a considerable
identity overlap between the two, both because a large number of ORIB members also subscribe to the list,
and because in a sense ORIB grew out of the list.
While many of ORIB's officers live in the San Francisco Bay Area, its Board as a whole
reflects the geographical diversity of Raiders fans, including directors living on the East Coast and
outside the U.S.
ORIB is unique among Oakland Raiders booster clubs in that it isn't geographically based.
Instead, it is comprised of members from around the world, who meet regularly on the Internet to celebrate
the Raiders. It's an especially good way for fans in out-of-the-way places who have Internet access to stay
plugged in to all things Raiders.
Find out more at the club's Web site, which
includes membership info and an on-line application form, lots of photos of fans and Raiderettes, and info
for out-of-town fans coming to Mecca.
