July 30, 2004 - Signed LB Andre Sommersell (Colorado State). (Raiders.com took the easy way out and
just listed Sommersell as having been signed on July 29, but in fact he signed on the 30th; here's the real
scoop.) Ironically befitting his status as 2004's Mr. Irrelevant, Sommersell's contract hadn't gotten finished for
him to sign the day before, so he went to team HQ in Alameda in the morning to sign his contract, then drove to
the wine country—under most circumstances a beautiful drive, but one doubts the rookie was paying much
attention to the scenic aspects on the drive north to his first professional training camp 
)—arriving
in Napa in time to participate in the team's afternoon practice. You gotta love it!
